Beogram 3000

(1985-1987) Stereo turntable, tangential tracking, 33/45RPM, Datalink, MMC 4 pickup

Type numbers: 5901, 5903, 5905

The Beogram 3000 was internally an identical machine to the Beogram 5005, and was introduced at around the same time. The cabinet offered an alternative styling approach, with an inclined lid and a mostly black finish. A novel feature was that secondary control keys projected through the lid, so all functions bar the speed change could be operated without lifting the lid and exposing the record on the platter to dust. Originally, the Beogram 3000 was the recommended choice to work with the Beomaster 3000, though it was notable that no real attempt had been made to make the styling of the turntable match that of the Beomaster, unlike the Beogram 2000 that was offered with the Beomaster 2000. Later, the Beogram 3000 was also recommended for use with the Beocenter 9000. A wall-mounted shelf was available for use with the Beogram 3000 so that it could be fixed to a wall along with Beomaster 3000 and Beocord 2000. Text copyright © Beocentral. The Beogram 3000 was replaced by two models, the Beogram 3300 for the Beosystem 3300 and the Beogram 9000 for the Beocenter 9000. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.

Beogram 3300

(1988-1989) Stereo turntable, 33/45RPM, tangential tracking, Datalink, MMC 4 pickup

Type numbers: 5931, 5933, 5935

The Beogram 3300 was a re-styled Beogram 3000 made to match the Beosystem 3300. The styling changes included changing from a theme of black to one of light grey, and adding bold graphics to label the keys on the lid. With these changes and those made to the Beomaster, the two units now matched each other quite well, though of course there was still no disguising that the Beogram was still far deeper that the Beomaster. No changes were made technically and so performance remained the same. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.

The re-style of the Beogram 3000 into the 3300 was perhaps not the most successful that B&O had ever done, and the appearance quickly went from “trendy” to “dated” as the years passed, not something that one normally associates with B&O products. The Beogram 3300 was replaced with two models as the range diverged, the Beogram 3500 and the Beogram 4500. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.

Beogram 4500

(1989-1992) Stereo turntable, 33/45RPM, Datalink, RIAA pre-amplifier, MMC ? pickup

Type numbers: 5951, 5953, 5954, 5955

A very similar machine to the Beogram 9500, the only difference being that the Beogram 4500 was fitted with a built-in RIAA pre-amplifier. The Beogram 4500 could still be wall-mounted with an optional special shelf, though the Beogram was now “on its own” in this respect as the Beogram CD 4500 could be hung vertically along with the Beomaster and Beocord. The Beogram 4500 was one of the last turntables to be offered by B&O (though the Beogram 7000 out-lived it), and was withdrawn, along with the rest of Beosystem 4500, as the range was simplified. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.

Beogram 8500

(1989-1992) Stereo turntable, 33/45RPM, Datalink, MMC ? pickup

Type numbers: 5971, 5973

An identical model to the Beogram 9500 except for the finish, which in this case was flat grey. Never a strong seller, the Beogram 8500 was not replaced when both it and the Beocenter 8500 were deleted from the range. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.

Beogram 9500

(1989-1993) Stereo turntable, 33/45RPM, Datalink, MMC ? pickup

Type numbers: 5966, 5968, 5969, 5970

One of four new models, still mechanically identical to the Beogram 5005, but in slightly re-styled cabinets based around the shape of the Beogram 3000. The Beogram 9500 was intended for use with the Beocenter 9500, and was fitted with a polished metal inlay in the lid to match it perfectly. Visually, this model was indistinguishable from the Beogram 4500, the only difference being that the latter included an RIAA pre-amplifier. Though the Beocenter 9500 was replaced by the simpler BeoCenter 9300, no matching turntable was offered for this model. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.

Beogram 3500

(1990-1992) Stereo turntable, 33/45RPM, Datalink, RIAA pre-amplifier, MMC 4 pickup

Type numbers: 5976, 5977, 5978

As the Beogram 4500 was very similar to the Beogram 9500, so the Beogram 3500 was very similar to the Beogram 8500. Again, the difference was in that the Beogram 3500 was fitted with a built-in RIAA pre-amplifier, with other details being very similar. Text copyright © Beocentral.
