This very large loudspeaker was the biggest in the RL range. Rated at 140W, there was nothing in the B&O range of the day that could drive it fully, except for the Beolab 150 amplifier. However, the Beomaster 8000 had only recently withdrawn, which could certainly make full use of these full-size models. The Beovox RL 140 comprised two 6½" woofers, one 5” midrange driver and one 1” dome tweeter. Unlike the RL 60.2, the two woofers were connected directly together and reproduced the same sound. The other drivers were protected by thermal cutouts, a unique feature of this model. Other technical details included a tuned bass port and a separate internal enclosure for the midrange driver. Like the RL 60 models, connections could be made either to the recessed spring clips at the rear or a DIN plug in one corner. A prop stand could be hinged out from the rear of the cabinet, though really the RL 140 was far too large for this sort of positioning, so the optional floor stand would have been recommended. Later in the life of this model, the choice of having the rear cabinet finished in white as well as grey was offered. In the case of the white version, the famous “red line” became silver, though the name remained the same. The cloth grille remained available in grey only however. Text copyright © Beocentral. The RL 140 was replaced by the RL 7000. Text copyright © Beocentral. Unauthorised reproduction prohibited.

This model replaced the RL 140. It was technically very similar but was offered in new colours, black with a black cloth grille or white with a grey cloth grille. New curly “RL cables” were made to match in white and grey or and black and grey. Even though the red line around the cabinet was no longer there, the “RL” model designation remained. The “7000” numbering suggested that the RL 7000 would be the ideal partner for the Beosystem 7000, though not many customers took up the option, preferring instead to specify more obvious choices such as the Beolab Penta 3.
